I have updated security measurements and windows updates, done the spyware, adware, and virus scans, which nothing bad showed up, so why won't my computer shut down? When I go to the start menu and select standby it turns black and the monitor shuts off but the computer is still running. When I select turn off it gives me a weird error message that an application failed and to click okay, but there is no cursor to click okay with and then I have to manually shut down the computer, which I know isn't good for it. Any suggestions?

hi did you ever figure this out? i'd like to know because i have the exact same problem... the cursor disappearing too! :(

Unplug the computer from the oulet for a minute or two. Then plug it back in and start it up. Perhaps that will help. \E

is it a laptop if so just clos it then press the on botton 4 a little BIT.
