Well, I'm thirteen and i saw it when i was 11 and i didn't think it was inappropriate at all. they use some racy words but that's about it. I loved the play and i saw it before the movie. It was amazing. once i saw the movie i was able to compare and the only thing was it wasn't as long and there weren't as many curse words. you should definitely see it.

It's similar; the songs used in the movie are (obviously) from the musical, but there are also more songs in the musical. There's less dialogue; it's a rock opera, so everything but a handful of lines is sung. Also, there's the "Contact" scene, which is basically a sex scene. Overall, it's definitely more adult than the movie, and I wouldn't want to see it if I was still thirteen (nor would I want to take a thirteen year old).

I believe the subject matter on this may be a bit much for a thirteen year old. Both the movie and the play are close. There really is no loss in translation on these. Both are powerful but I still believe too strong for someone so young. They really are already exposed to so much that their innocence is slipping away from them at a high velocity. Let a child be a child. Let them play. When they get older, give them some culture.

It is the same as the movie!!!! FOr your thirteen year-old , it depends on how mature your 13 is. It is mainly an adult movie, but many teens love this show! You may want to check into it tho! www.broadway.com

weather or not a thirteen year old should see it depends on the thirteen year old. If drugs, boze, homosexuality, cussing, and sex make them uncomforable, then stay away. I say the movie first when i was thirteen, and it raly changed how I look at he world.

Actually, when I was thirteen, before Rent became a movie, I wanted to see it. So... Yeah...

I've never seen the actual musical unfortunately, however i do have the Broadway soundtrack, and the only thing i would be concerned about is the song "Contact" and the occasional F-bomb. ..that is, if you were to be concerned about anything.

One big difference is that when you're watching the musical, the music is so loud that you can hardly understand what anyone is saying. So I think the 13 year old would be more effected by the movie. ...Though still not in a bad way. I'd say it would have more of a positive impact than a negative one.

No, there's more sex in the musical than in the movie. So probably not, if you don't like your kids being exposed to sex and homosexuality and drugs, which some people apparently have problems with. My kids would see it, but others might not.
