Abraham Lincoln comes close yet he can't get the top seat. The civil war was not actually faught over slavery, "althou that does not come up in your history book."
The north had all the industry, the south the crops. The north needed the food in the south and at the same time could not wait till the confederacy hadenough time to build a real war machine. And they didn't need that big of an enemy next door. so war was the way to deal with it.
Ronald Reagan brought down the mighty soviet empire without a single battle. He knew that a free enterprise society could win in an arms race. But it left a country we cannot trust with to many that they can't securely guard.
Gerald Ford took over a country in turmoil without even asking for the job. Yet he managed to pull a country together when it was in dire need.
This country, divided as it is today, needs someone who can fill his shoes, and pull us together for one common goal. A united America. olhip48

In my opinion,

Washington was elected unanimously by the Electoral College in 1789, and he remains the only person ever to be elected president unanimously (a feat which he duplicated in the 1792 election)

Washington was not a member of any political party, and hoped that they would not be formed.

Most people will say Lincoln, but he wouldn't recognize the Republican Party today.
