I'm 24 and mine are always abnormal it seems. its called a colposcopy and ive had it twice. the colposcope is basically just like a microscope that they use to zoom in on the cervix. it has a light on it. first they look, and then they take a small sample (biopsy). it may pinch a little or cause a quick cramp. oh yeah, and before all that they swab the cervix with a solution (iodine i think) to be able to see abnormal cells better. the solution is a light brown, and u will see a little bit of that light brown discharge immediately after. after one of my colpos the result came back that everything was normal again. after another one (these were a year apart) it turned out they were high grade abnormal cells. i had to have them lasered off. i wouldnt. most women i know have had an abnormal result once or twice. at the very best case, it'll clear up on its own. at the very worst, its high grade abnormality and they will get rid of the cells through a laser or LEEP procedure. at the very very very worst, someone could have cancerous cells, but please know that cancer of the cervix develops over many YEARS. basically it will lead up to that only if u have not had any paps to check on it ever and it got out of control. so the quick answer is no, u definitely should not worry.

I was about 26 when this happened to me. I was freaking out! But I learned that it wasn't that big a deal. I'm sure it could have been, but they did the biopsy (which is what I'm assuming you're talking about...frankly, I don't even remember what it was called)...they just had this big light/camera and went in and took some tissue for further testing. For me, that was the end of it. The tests came back normal. I just had to get semi-annual paps for the next 2 years. I've been fine ever since (and that was 10 years ago).

you shouldn't be worried, what she is doing is she is trying to "catch the cells" before they become cancerous . I had an abnormal pap smear when I was 24 years-old. you'll be okay.:O)

The word is colposcopy. I had one today.... don't really want to talk about it.

I just wanted to give you the spelling so you can look it up and read about it.
