How to back up ipod library to itunes library?

Well my ipod has a volume limit and I forgot it completely. So I checked the ipod website and it said to restore it. (Erasing completely everything)But I have some songs on it that aren't in my itunes library (because I got some songs from my friends) How do I save those songs to my itunes library so I can still have all my songs and the ones that my friend gave me?

Go to the Advanced tab, and click consolidate library. If by any chance it does not consolidate, you'll have to copy and paste each song by hand.
