If walmart is supposed to be the biggest retailer in the world, how come they have no establishments in one of the biggest cities in the world. It is recognized as a huge, multi-national corporation but I have never had the opportunity to shop in one as none exist in NYC. Please xplain why there are none in New York City.

The reason why they do not want to spend the money to open one up in NYC, because they know that it will not last. There just isn't enough rednecks in NYC to support a wal-mart (heck I am guessing that there isn't any rednecks in NYC).

Target opened a store in a skyscraper somewhere on 23rd St.

Wal-Mart does not want to pay millions just to lease a couple of skyscraper floors in NYC. There is a huge Wal-Mart in the Meadowlands if New Yorkers wish to shop at a Wal-Mart.

If Wal-Mart feels that they can make money by operating from a skyscraper, they will not hesitate to open one.

There are no walmarts in nyc because only the best stores and most important buildings go ther. For example the Empire State Building is very important and Macys which is the biggest in nyc has very nice clothing at reasonable prices.

Walmart's main strategy is to close down small businesses. When Sam Walton built Walmart he wanted to shut down his main competitor.. K-mart.

See.. Sam Walton once was a K-mart manager but they fired him. He wanted revenge and kept building Walmarts near K-mart. Walmart kept taking their customers and K-mart was forced to shut down their stores. Other small businesses had to shut their stores down because Walmart kept taking their customers by offering cheaper prices because they had cheap stuff coming from China.

Walmart can't compete with big businesses in New York.

I'm not sure what Wal-Marts explanation is, but I have a friend whose management and when I asked him why there are so few Wal-Marts per capita in Florida his explanation was that the shoplifting rate was so high in Florida that Wal-Mart did not want to build there.
