I do Karaoke all the time at bars and clubs. One of the DJ's, the other night, recorded me onto CD and let me have it. It's only me singing one song which was "It matters to me" by faith hill. Could I create a music profile on Myspace and put myself singing on there and use it as networking? I'd really like to get my voice recognized if I could....but I wasn't sure if it would absolutely have to be MY OWN music or not?

I think I understand what you mean, you are addressing copy right rules on using someone Else's song correct? I suggest you contact myspace help, I'm sure they have dealt with this same issue before.

Update: Hey don't give up on your dream just because things don't fall into your lap. Do what you need to do in order to fulfill your love for music, obviously you must have talent so don't freakin give up.

You have to own/maintain the copyright on the material itself in order to post it, they're strict in that respect and state it as such in the editing window where you upload the song.

My advice? Find a song that's fallen into public domain, they're copyright free and you don't run the risk of getting a cease and desist order thrown at you by Faith HIll's (or whom so ever wrote the song) attorney's over the song in question.

How do I upload music to my page? http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=misc.faq&Category=5&Question=47

You must have a Band/Artist profile in order to upload your music. Once you have created a Band/Artist profile, click 'Edit Profile' > 'Manage Songs' tab, and then upload the mp3 in question. Music files should not exceed 10 MB in size.
