i was wondering, when i go to college, i wnat to either be a dietician/food scientist or an english/spanish translator. how does this work at college, can you take a language major and a minor that has nothing to do with it, or do all of your minors revolve around your major?

Most people minor in something that goes along with their major so that there aren't as many classes, as the minor and major classes often overlap if their fields are related.

But most schools will let you major and minor in whatever you want as long as you stay within their credit guidelines and take all of your gen ed requirements.

Oh sure you can take majors and minors that don't really relate. It maybe helpful so that classes interconnect more, but in some cases it will be to your benefit because it says your more diversified than other candidates when your seeking a job. Personally,I graduated with a major in information technology and a minor in music having the french horn as my primary instrument Good goals, there is always a need for Spanish translators and guidance on how to stay healthy. I wish you the best of luck!

Good choice! One a major, the other a minor. The minor being the Spanish. Go for it!

I think that you could combine both paths. What about being a bilingual dietitian? If you are in the US, Spanish is a very good language to know and would probably be an asset as a dietitian. You'd put yourself in a niche that I would imagine not many other upcoming dietitians can claim.

Most of the times it should because the classes of one helps with the other but if you go to a counselor and ask him what you want they might be able to give you what you want. But go to them and find out before the classes you want are filled.
