I recently downloaded Firefox and have been using it for a couple of weeks. I notice that whenever I download a file from the browser my computer makes a grating sound. If I download the same file from Internet Explorer, no sound. What's going on? Is it a problem with my computer or with Firefox or what?!?

Thanks.

I suspect it could be your hard drive is near-dead, and FF is using a different area of the drive to IE for downloads.

Either that, or FF is eating more CPU, and another fan comes on. If other CPU intensive stuff doesn't make the sound, it's not that.

It's highly rare for a software bug to cause a hardware bug like this, so I say it's your PC.

Well, all computers make some sort of noise when some thing is being downloaded. If it's really loud, then call the geek squad, because they helped me with a virus problem!
