does belly dancing help you lose wieght? if it does than PLZ tell me if it does!!!

i also want to tone my abdominals so i want to know if belly dancing can do that too. Thx!

Yes, it absolutely does! I took a belly dancing class, and not only was it one of the FUNNEST things I've ever done for myself ; its also a great way to burn calories and tone your muscles. I HIGHLY reccommend it! I cant wait for my daughter to get into preschool so I can take it again.

Bellydance is similar to a cardio workout so you can expect similar results in that respect. If you do it 3-5 times a week for 30minutes each time of course your will lose weight. The toning is not going to be what you expect though. Although bellydance is a great workout it does not exactly tone the abs. Most people assume it's great for the abs because of the mis-nomer "belly" dance. They hear that and see people like the bellydance superstars and assume bellydance eqauls flat abs. IT DOES NOT! Most bellydancers have well rounded hips and a soft rounded stomach. This is normal among bellydancers and many find it more beautiful for bellydance than flat abs. There are certain moves that are done with the abdominal muscles but most are not focused there. Bellydancers get flat abs when they do warm-up and stretches that focus on that area. The amount of practice and actual use during performance of moves that involve abdominal muscles more intensly is so relatively small that it would have little effect on toning. However it will give you slight all over soft toning.

Most training for belly dancing is doing crunches and a lot of belly rolling. In order to become really good at belly dancing it takes a lot of time but yes, its exercise, it will help lose weight.

Any kind of movement will help you lose some calories. But there are other better ways to lose weight. Do it if you think it would be more fun than your average cardio tape or DVD.

well of course it does. belly dancing works alot off muscles you don't usually use a lot. it works every part of your body. you should try it you'll like it. it's fun.

Yes, it is a good way to burn calories!
Plus it teaches you to be very flexible, which is always a good thing. And you can....."entertain" your man!
