I have a couple of months remaining on my contract with Verizon. I'm anxious to move to another provider and get a phone that Verizon does not support.

According to my contract, Verizon will charge a $175 cancellation fee. I wonder if there's any room for negotiation.

If other peoples' experience is "no, no way", then I won't bother with the hassle of trying and being rejected. But if other people report that Verizon is sometimes willing to reduce or waive the early termination fee, then it may be worth the trouble to talk to them and try.

Has anyone had any luck with reducing Verizon's early termination fee?

Thanks.

My 3 yr family plan contract ended 6/06. We were going month to month until dau. graduated in May (she will probably move out of state). IN 12/06 my purse was stolen -cell phone inside. Under great duress, I canceled my phone, and made dau. the primary and only line that day. She then wanted to cancel a couple weeks later. VZ sent $340 early disconnect bill. It took several phone calls and diligence on my part for VZ to finally give it up. My arguments were that I was under stress that day, the person I spoke to NEVER said-"lady this means you are signing up for another contract", (I would have come to my senses then!) & I appealed to their sense of decency. My advice, be patient & respectful, ask to speak to a mgr, keep notes. Good luck!

Not under your circumstances. They waived the fee for me when I was sent to Iraq. If you only have a few months left, I would just wait until it ends.

I tried to cancel my contract and they refused to void the charges so if I were you, I would finish the contract, you are about to finish it anyway.
