This isn't exactly a difficult question to answer. And I'd like to point out that being poor doesn't exactly make you a dumbass. Lets take Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears as examples for rich people here, and any of the people I work with (ok so you don't know them but the point is they are poor but are easily more intelligen than either of those two).

Picture this, you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, rotating shifts, have rent and bills to pay, a car mot coming up, and the ever looming fact that your life is never going to amount to much more than being a cog in the old machine, churning the economy for very little reward. To get away from this fact, we go for mind altering substances to help make the long, pointless days that bit easier. Bring in Alcohol, Cigarettes, and in some cases, weed or maybe something a little stronger. The first two are the most common, because they are the cheapest, legal, and do the required job. I understand full well the risks of smoking and drinking, but does that stop me, or any of us? No, because at the end of the day, we're all gonna die, and when your poor it's not exactly worth stretching your life out is it.

I'm not entirely sure about this question but i do feel that all so called classes of people smoke, speaking form a sociology qualification, poorer people have less choices, tend to live in more deprivation, were the richer have more life choices and more disposable income

iam not a judgemental person at all, people know the health implications that smoking has on the body they have the right to smoke or not, statistics show that the lower working class do smoke more, i studied this in college, but i don't think its because they are poor they smoke its down too alot of factors

why dont you download an artical called THE BLACK REPORT, its information on the different classes with statistical information on a number of topics

Who says that poorer people smoke more than richer people ? Where did you get your facts from.

I am a smoker, and I am getting brassed off with being dictated to by the REFORMED smokers and NON smokers. I bet you are one in this category.

And had it not have been for an ex-smoking rip off ex- husband I would have been rich. Now because of him I am poor.
So where does that put me!!

As for the people who have stated on here that smokers are less educated, they are just so impertinent..... I do hope they know what that means.

Us poorer people smoke more than richer people maybe due to more stress related problems (ie.. money worries, work related issues etc..) where as richer people seem to live in the dream world !!! A broken false nail is a issue to them.. Where as us poorer ppl turn to fags and drink when were down, those richer ppl have a week or so in a posh clinic to sort out their issues.

Rich children grow up in an environment that satisfies all their material needs. Poor children grow up in the neighbourhood with their friends and are not so isolated. One child starts smoking and all the rest follow.

However, rich people are mostly very disciplined and focussed and come to the realisation that it is an unhealthy habit. Thus they have the drive which makes them kick the habit easier. Poor people (unfortunately) do have the 'loser' attitude and therefore they just give up on themselves and continue smoking. It does relieve the stress - but adds to their impoverishment.

Its nothing to do with being less educated, trust the morons to come up with this.

Poorer people smoke to put up with the inequality of life, they are under much more pressure to just live normally.

You will find that poorer people dont want a fortune ,all they want is to live a normal life without worrying where the next meal for the family is coming from and being able to pay the gas and electricity bill.

Richer people worry about where the next car is coming from,or the next horse, they really havent got a clue what it is like to struggle for money,im not being a moaner here,Im stating the facts, life is very, very unfair.

Because smoking gets rid of stress, and generally poorer people have more stress than richer people. That would be my guess anyway.

Rich people have more money for travel and entertainment and more time to enjoy socialising and enjoy family life. Poor people don't have enough money for necessities much less travel and entertainment. They are strapped for time because of long work hours and family obligations. They are stressed and they still want to enjoy the pleasures of life. So, they indulge in harmful but pleasurable activities that start out cheap but end up costing them dearly. Activities like smoking, abusing alcohol and drugs, overeating, and inappropriate sexual activity.

i think poorer smoke more than rich people because they have more problems like stress because they probably don't have enough money or something and rich people don't have to worry as much because they have that money.

They probably were made pooper by smoking so much and developing a need for Nicotine. Then they spent all the money on ciggerets (sp?). Rich poeple that smoke are probably less seseptible (sp?) to an adiction, or just have a real good job.
