1.Insert and boot from your Windows XP CD.

2.At the first R=Repair option, press the R key

3.Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair. Typically this will be #1

4.Enter in the administrator password when requested (if no pass the press enter)

5.Enter in the following commands (X: is replaced by the actual drive letter that is assigned to the CD ROM drive)

COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C\:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\

6.Take out the CD and type exit

The first comment on the top was right and was very informative.

However, I usually format mine and start all over. This would be a last resort if you can't afford to take it somewhere to get them to copies those files to your harddrive.

Katt, it would say invalid boot disk, please remove and press any keys. It doesn't say NTLDR is missing. Please read the question carefully before commenting.

your documentd and file are still there
hopefully you are not botonig to a bad cd or something as other said
but it could very well be that ntloader has been corrupted
and without that file windows ( be it 2000 or xp ) will not boot
