Question

Well, I was given a task to write an essay on "Salary Cap Advantages"
I just need to provide 3 evidences for the following point:
1) Salary cap evens out the teams so that there's always a fair competition between the teams.
2) Salary cap prevents jealousy.
3) It also helps keep the price down.

The above are points that i have come up with. Evidences need to be provided. Please share your knowledge with me. Thanks.

Don't know how you are going ot prove these points as the price is not down. The price of players is always increasing and with FA's the bidding sets the price and since there are some teams that are under the cap while those hoping to retain their free agents are not they are forced to pay over market value to keep their own free agents and with how the FA market is set up with a players current team having the inside track an outside team has to really overpay for any player in hopes of getting the other team not to match. That's a Huge DISADVANTAGE

don't know where you are going to get this jealousy proof as you don't know what guys are really thinking. But we do know that players look at who's getting what and what they are producing to determine their own value which drives their price up or causes players to leave. Even a decade ago why do you think Shawn Kemp laft the sonics? he was upset that a scrub center named Jim Mcilvaine was getting more money than him.

As for number 1 how are you going to show this when you have teams like the knicks with a payroll over twice the salary cap and teams able to sign their star players for more with bird right options and so forth.

The only thing the salary cap does is limit what teams can bid for a players service so market value is not reached. The draft evens out teams not FA signings.

I hope you're not in a debate class as your "evidence" can be torn to threads. I'd stick to the facts if I were you and focus on a few teams dominating all the signings like the big markets while locations no one wants to go struggle. I have no idea how you are going to show the price on players is being held down when a player who wants to get paid an find a team that will pay him more than he's worth. Just looking at all the overpriced players tells us that.

Well i think you are alittle off the salary cap is supposed to do all of those things but what often get is teams over spending on guys they shouldn't ie if a team needs a center the will over pay to get one it raises the price of most player because teams will over spend on a player if they have cap room avilable and the market is set by the player with the highest contract so it doen's keep the price down
