No, it was his brother, Edward, Jr. who lost a leg to cancer as a child.

I think he had bone cancer and lost his leg at around the age of 12, back in the 70's

Yes he did --i think he was around 14. From what i remember it was because of cancer. I hope im giving you the correct answer as it was quite awhile ago. bettyk
