The original 70s Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the most disturbing one I've ever seen. The remake is actually pretty good, but it doesn't quite have the atmosphere.
I watched this Japanese one called the Grudge. That was probably the scariest one I've ever seen. I've not seen the remake, but I can't imagine it's as scary. Another Jap one was Dark Water, that freaked me out a bit, not as much as the Grudge though.

There are too many. The Shining is a classic, The Exorcist was a movie way ahead of its time, I don't know. I guess I will say The Ring. It was a movie that brought something very original to America. You gotta watch out for those Japanese writers! They know how to scare you!

I don't think the movie Irreversible actually qualifies as a horror movie but it was the most disturbing movie I've seen. The scene with a guy getting his head bashed in with a fire extinguisher and the rape scene were absolutely horrific.

Besides the movies I could hardly stand to watch five minutes of, like Saw, probably the Final Destination series.

The 1972 movie, Last House on the Left, directed by Wes Craven, will tingle your spine. It has kidnap, mutilation, torture, rape, murder, & other gory things. It's abt two psychotic drifters that are evil personified. Your toes might curl.
