Hi babydoll, your lumina is running hot because yes your fans are not coming on as they should.Could be numerous things that will cause this.(relay, fan motor, coolant temp sensor, etc)first of all check your coolant level. If that is ok take it to a garage and have it diagnosed.A smart tech should be able to figure out the problem in a hour.Good luck

there are a couple of reasons.,
first you may be low on coolant
second you may have a bad thermostat

1. before you start the car and the engine is cold, remove your radiator cap and see if there is antifreeze in it, if you do not see it, you'll need to add more. To do this, have the antifreeze ready still making sure the engine is cold , start the car without the cap on and turn your heater on high and full fan... add the fluid until you you see it near the top of the opening. properly Replace the cap.

If it is your Thermostat, see a mechanic Thermostats are not that expensive but having a mechanic put it in may cost a little but it is needed.

The cooling fan relay may be acting up. If they don't come on again turn the air conditioner on and see if the fan(s) turn on. (You may need to drive it with the A/C on to keep it from overheating until you get it fixed. The thermostat may be going bad also, or a bad coolant temp switch (not allowing fans to activate). There are many variables to your situation, just get it looked at immediately before you need to replace the cylynder head(s) also. Heat will destroy an engine.

Overheating.
1. Insufficent coolanty in system.
2. Waterpump drivebelt defective or out of adjustment.
3. Radiator core blocked or grille restricted.
4. Thermostat faulty.
5. Electric cooling fan blades broken or cracked.
6. Raditor cap not maintaining proper pressure.
7. Bad raditor hoses.
8; Electric fans not working.
9. Bad water pump.
10. If your car is overheating, don't drive it. Over heating can cause head damage on this engine in a heart beat.

Before you spend a lot of time troubleshooting the problem or paying a mechanic to troubleshoot for you. Check the fuse box first for a busted fuse. you should see a diagram of your fuse box on the fuse box cover and look for the radiator fan fuse. The fuse box is usually located underneath the dash by the driver side. Remove the fuse and check if the wire inside the fuse is still intact. If not, replace with similar amps from local autoparts store. Cost: less than a dollar. The same thing happened to my Isuzu and it took me less than 2 minutes to remove and replace the fuse on my radiator fan. Hope this helps.

first are you filling the radiator with motor working and then including to over bypass jug.. are your belts and hoses good and whilst a water pump is undesirable maximum offen they leak and if the thermostat is undesirable you are able to watch the bypass of coolant in radiator to work out if its commencing off and shutting good by potential of seeing the coolant bypass up and down or not.... maximum likely your radiator is plugged up or your not filling radiator adequate and you are going to be able to attempt a thermostat by potential of boiling it in water and gazing it and that's extra fee-effective in case you in basic terms had it examine at a save
