I deal with people like this on a daily basis. You need to remember that these tests are for YOUR BENEFIT and without them... well it could not be good. Depending on what they're testing you for, you may want to have them put you through that entire "2 seconds of torture" you call it. Its definetly beneficial.
This might sound silly and more embarrassing but if you have too, wear a blindfold and look at the other wall the entire time. Although you obviously know whats coming, have a conversation with someone (have a friend tag-along as well) something far off from what you're going through at the moment. If you're lucky, the medical technician, nurse or whoever of taking your blood work will be very well and you'll only feel it for a second. On a side note, remember the breathe! I joke with patients in some cases when they're looking at the other wall and say 'Do I need to intubate?' -- theres no reason to not breathe!
If the nurse misses your vain once or twice (this is the non-comforting part... which is nothing to worry about! Just an extra band-aid) ask for another nurse politely and most likely they would be happy to supply you with someone else that could do it quickly.
Good luck! It's no big deal!

I had to take a friend to the doctor for a needle and he too was so scared.......I found that avoiding things that can help make you anxious for the day before was good. Avoid caffeine and anything else that stresses people out.......hang around calm people and get your friends over the night before to tell you funny antidotes that you have to remember while you are sitting there. Remember, the calmer you are the easier it is to take the blood.
Ask you friend to come with you, keep you eyes closed from the car to the waiting room and then to the chair (may be even a blind fold) and because you can't see what is happening you will not have anything to be scared of. Just stay calm, hang around calm people and laugh heaps......after all, you know there is really nothing to be scared of!!!

The best way to face an unreasonable fear is to GO THROUGH IT AFRAID and find out it's not as awful as you imagined. You had a bad experience but that doesn't often happen and there are good reasons to have blood work done even if you are afraid of the needle. Having to be stuck for blood work is nothing compared to not taking care of health needs and ending up sick or dead. Go on the 6th and do what has to be done. Anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger....and you'll eventually be less afraid.

I have been like you - hate needles. I finally realized that it was something I had to deal with. I just stick out my arm and take deep breaths until it is over, I cannot look. Although, if they do not get the needle in properly the first time, I still hyperventilate - this is why the deep breaths are necessary. I am 63, so the fear is still there. Just try to clear your mind, tell yourself it will be over soon and take DEEP BREATHS, from the belly and the lungs, it really works - or helps!
You get yourself upset way before anything happens like I used to, do not look at the needle, just stick out your arm and breathe.
I sympathize because I know what it is like, but you can do it.

I hate needles with a passion! See if the nurse will let you put on headphones. My doctor knows not to let me see the needle when he brings it in or I'll freak out. The best way for me to get a needle is to not see it, get it fast, have my eyes closed and listen to music while it's happening.

Calm down. Take a deep breath and BREATHE. It's a needle. Not a torture device. It doesn't even hurt. Look away, chat with the needle-person, and BREATHE. If you are relaxed, it won't hurt nearly as much.

I know how you feel. I always feel the same way but I just try not to cry and then, I just try not to think about it.
