most laptops today come with an RJ-45 connector (ethernet, or the oversized phone jack). connect that to your router/cable modem and it should automatically enable the internet. if you want wireless, but a router with wireless access and a wireless ethernet card and they should hook up. its quite simple, almost like plug-and-play.

go to newegg.com, search for trendnet usb adapter, buy the wifi finder\wireless adapter. or go buy a wireless card
