The usual causes for random shutdowns are:
1)Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU;
2)Memory module going bad;
3)Power supply going bad.

It was to hot. The tempture rose where it couldn't work. This could explain why you couldn't turn it on right after but a few hours you can. Just leave it on for a day, if it turns off try to turn it back on, if you can't wait a hour, turn it back on. If it works normally then its heat. Take the sides off, and go get some fans for the case.

I know... I know...

It is the power supply... flatten your wallet and yourselft a super power supply...

Socket 939 consumes a lot of power, I believe that is why you cannot switch it on anymore.

Good machine though :) I used to use something similar....

Good Luck,
