Go to memory4all.com, and find out what kind of memory your computer takes. Then look at the chip you have, and see if it matches.
One warning - a static charge in your body can fry a memory chip. Before handling the chip, discharge any static in your body by touching something metallic. A door knob, a hot water radiator, something like that will do the trick. Better yet - wear an anti-static strip that's connected to something metallic. You can see these at the website.

If it is RAM, if you are using a lap top, or any computer, most of them are simular. If you put the wrong Ram in, the computer will tell. If it is more, and the computer accepts it, it will let you know. Just pay attention how the RAM is installed. Two little clips are all that hold it, it will POP up.
You can also use the internet, put in you computer, and see if that part is acceptable.
Just remember, take out the battery, disconnect all power. The Ram is usually under the bottom, under a plate. Just be gentle, and no static discharge or you might have big problems.
Bottom line: You disconnect the power, change it out if it fits, and when you reboot the computer will let you know.

Try using a free program called 'Everest', it will tell you what kind of memory you have (that is if you are talking about RAM). It also tells you ever type of different hardware you have which is extremely handy. Good luck!
