The longest palindromic word in the Oxford English Dictionary is "tattarrattat", coined by James Joyce in Ulysses for a knock on the door.

The Guinness Book of Records gives "detartrated", the past tense of detartrate, a somewhat contrived chemical term meaning to remove tartrates.

There is also "sensuousness"

He asked for a word.

kinnikinnik

It means a mixture used by North American Indians as a substitute for tobacco. It's usually spelled kinnikinniCk, but the spelling I've given is also recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary. "Detartrated" is longer but, insofar as I know, does not appear in any published dictionary.

Note to Misunderestimated (great name, by the way): OED says that "tattarrattat" is a made up word that has only been used once (by James Joyce).
