Assuming that all the cables/wiring have been done correctly and user/password for both modem/router..is correct...
If the problem is....that when you connect both your router and modem together it doesn't work, then you might want to get a new IP. There may be a router/modem conflict. Only plug in the cables to the router and disconnect it from the modem. Only plug in the cable in one of your computers (the one you are using to "control" it). The only cables that should be connected to the router is the port cable and the power wire to the adapter.
I do not know which router you are using, but usually, you just go to the software/program/CD/setup of the router and you will see a place where you can change your IP for your LAN. Change the third section (it has something like 123.456.7.8, the 7, for example would be the "third section") of what it has there to another number, like the number 10 or something. After you have done that, change the BOTH the "starting" and the "ending" IPs "third section" as well, to the number you changed the IP address in the first part to, so in this example, it would be..10. Then click "ok", "apply", or whatever button it has there to confirm stuff.
After you have done that, you need to release and renew your IP on your computer itself. You can do this by going on your task bar and click "Start" ---> "Run". Once you are at "Run", type in "cmd" or "COMMAND". You will see a black screen. On the black screen, you will see a space where you can type (it will blink). First, type in "ipconfig/release" then after it loads..type in "ipconfig/renew" on the same black window. Next, try to connect back your cables for your modem and router. Turn your modem on...wait for it to load (all the lights and stuff).Then...if your internet requires a login..type in your login/pw on your router "options" too, because the modem and router must match for the "login/pw". If it works, then you can plug the rest of your cables back in the router. Keep in mind that, every time you reset your router with the button, you may have to do these steps again.
I hope it works, good luck, hope I've helped. =P
If it still doesn't work...you may want to contact your router company (the modem/internet company usually doesn't know about router issues).
