I'm 40 weeks, due date is the day after tomorrow. I'm already contracting, but I can't feel them. (I was being monitored at the hospital the other night, that's how I know.) Everyone is telling me to try Castor Oil. They say that it will clean me out and put me into labor, and that since I'm already contracting, it should be successful. Do you think it would work?

Have already tried everything else from walking to sex to nipple stimulation. Nothing has worked. What are the chances that this will?

Just relax. The child will come when the 9 months are up. There will be no time to relax for a long time after that. I have never found a safe way to hurry things along. If you have contractions, it probably will be soon. Forget the Castor oil. This is no time to
be stuck on the toilet. Sometimes you get an especially energetic day and the urge to clean the house. This is a good sign Bday is near if not the day.

Been there, done that - three times! I was 37 weeks and wasn't ready to deliver but I still tried it. It will work if you're already effaced and dialated. The reason being - it forces you to poo. The contractions on your bowels are soo strong it automatically triggers your uterus to try and empty too so it starts contracting as well. For me it was too early and the contractions started, got fairly strong but fizzled out. All it did was give me a serious bowel cleansing! If you do want to try it though don't just drink it straight, you'll just throw up. I mixed in the first time in a glass of V-8 Splash (DO NOT try that I still can't drink it to this day with out gagging) then I tried it in a cup of french vanilla coffee stuff - not too bad but... The easiest was mixing it in applesauce with lots of cinnamon. Greasy - yes, but the consistancy was still ok. Good luck whatever you decide. And when the time does come remeber to push just like you would if you were pooping, sounds gross but with all three of mine I never pushed more than 15 min (and they were big babies!)

nipple stimulation takes hours. I have 3 kids - I mixed about 1/4 cup of mineral oil into a glass of tea and drank up with my first child. By the next morning I was at the hospital preparing for the birth. The other two came easy and early. Good Luck! (HINT - nipple stimulation is fun when your partner is involved - make him do it or do what my friend did she got tired of trying nipple stimulation so she broke out the breat pump early and used it to stimulate her nipples!

What I did was I went and walked a lap around the mall near my house (it's all one level, and a 3 mile circle), and then, someone on here told me to do knee presses or squats. If you're on your back, pull your knees up towards your chest for a few seconds and release. If you're standing, do a few squats. It sounds weird, but gravity helps. Also, my doctor told me NOT to take castor oil, because it's not for sure that it will put you into labor. All that's for sure is you'll have one h*ll of an upset tummy.

I have heard castor oil in orange juice then go for a drive (over speed bumps) but then when my friend tried it all she got was diarrhoea! (but she had he dates wrong and wasn't as close to due as she thought).
I was 2 weeks late and my mum decided she wanted me out (can't imagin why) and she cooked a big lamb roast and cleaned the house and sure enough I poped out in a hurry (1 hour of labour almost didn't make it to hospital) that night!

The baby will come when it is ready. Things you do to try and start labor have the possibility to harming your child. Don't do anything without consulting your doctor The best thing to try is continued patience. I know it isn't easy. Our children all averaged about 2 weeks late. The earliest was nine days past the due date. all six of them were worth the wait. Hang in there. If your doctor thinks you need to start labor, he/she will induce.

Don't worry about it for now. Enjoy the last few nights of your pregnancy, when you get up to pee instead of getting up to feed the little one ;) As long as the baby is healthy, let him/her come when it's time. If there's a problem, the doctor can induce labor and will want to monitor you.
Congratulations, by the way!

Don't do it.... I tried it and it didn't work. You will clean out your pipes though.
If you are having real contractions, the last thing you want is to have diarrhea while you're giving birth!!! Your body has already begun... just take a nap while you still can, have a big meal.

i heard castor oil initially irritates the bowls, so some women believe that that in turn will start contractions, but unless you want to be running to the bathroom with the shits all night i dont suggest it
