Im hoping its like a cottonny kind of Jean - Can anyone give me a better picture of what "Gaberdine" is and the kind of texture I would expect?

Gabardine - A tightly woven diagonal twill with a matte finish. It comes in many weights and fibers and is considered to be multiseasonal.

Gabardine is a tough, tightly woven fabric and a form of twill weave. The fibre used to make the fabric is traditionally worsted (a woolen yarn), but may also be cotton, synthetic or mixed. The fabric is smooth on one side and has a diagonally ribbed surface on the other, so it's almost like corduroy but not as obviously ribbed. It's like a jean because it is tough and tight but maybe not as smooth.

i always thought it was a mac sort of consistency, cos i hae heard of a gaberdine mac, not much help i know

Yes!! its a Twill usually cotton. (Denim is a Cotton Twill) Its usally used to make Blazers, Trousers, and suits. Its a great fabric!!!

this material is also used for making light coats - I used to have one. I'm sure it will be very nice, warm and comfortable for pants, for a casual style.

It's polyester, usually blended with wool or some other natual or synthetic fabric.

Its the silkier type of cloth than cordoroy - used as pants in the 70s...
