dont feel like the bad guy. you have every right to want to meet the girl first. i myself am 18 and i understand when the parents of my friends who nare only a year younger then me want to meet me. You love her and care about her. she and her friend should respect your wishes and if the older girl cant understand that then your neice shouldn't be hanging out with her.

Hey I'm 19, and have friends all ages, when I was about 14 I had a friend age 10, but also friends my age. Last yr (when I was 18) I hung out with ages 12-23(I live in an area where everyones friends lol), but 18 is different from 14. It's okay to be paranoid, meet the girl, but don't hate her if you don't really know her, you know? If you want to ask her questions the first time then do so, but not too many or you'll scare her off prob, but don't let her know you worried because she can get intimidated. Well I don't really even know the girl, maybe she's not all that bad, but scope her out a little just don't give her a 3rd degree.

i am a person who strongly believes that any child under age 18 who is living in the home should not be going anywhere with anyone without a mature adult to supervise. I don't have any children but if if did, the only people i would trust as supervisors of my child would be another parent. you are right to want to know this person well before you allow your daughter to associate with them. you might try telling her and her friend that you would rather they only go places accompanied by you and or your husband. if the 18 yr. old is really mature, she will do this.

It should be required that ALL friends are met, regardless of supposed age prior to any "hanging out" by a 14 year old child.
I would question the motives, as there is a HUGE differance in those 4 years. It could be innocent, but it could also be very threating to a 14 year old, who is very esily influenced at this age.

You are doing an excellent thing! You need to get to know the older girl a little bit, and see what kind of person she is on your neice. But, it is an 'ok' thing in general.

YOu have very reason to meet this friend. I wouldn't let my girls do things without meeting who they were going anywhere with. She's only 14 and good for you for being on top of this.
