Millions, possibly even 100's of million go to bed at night without dinner in the United States. They are cold and unhappy. Yet you conservatives do not care about them. You do not think of them. We need our food but you take our money and food stamps away. We can't afford to work because our kids are important us. We need to stay home to be with them. But why don't you care?

This is the biggest bull $hit i have ever heard. Wow after all the retarted questions on Y/A i have read this one tops my list. Ok for starters only 37 million Americans are considered poor. That is 12 percent of all Americans. Now don't be saying " OMG" already because poverty in the U.S. is better than the middle class in a lot of countries. You get 3 square meals a day, a heated home or apartment, and money to spend on extra things. My friend makes 17,000 a year and he has all those things. Also he has a good laptop and an iPod. Why? Because of good money management. Listen to this quote

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”

The liberals like you want to give him a fish. Conservatives want to teach them how to fish.

Liberals make all these programs that tax the rich so they can give it to people that some times just waste it on beer. You shouldn't tax success. Conservatives care about all economic classes. Everybody gets taxed and everybody gets tax cuts.

Stop spreading lies about conservatives. if you were a true American you would fight your arguments with facts and logic not fake propaganda.

I'm not trying to make light of america's poor or say that they are poor by choice, but I really can't agree with you when you say that in general, they are among the poorest in the world. One of my parents grew up in Bogota, a very violent and very poor city. There were no government food stamps, welfare, nothing. There were many days when breakfast, lunch, and dinner were rotting potatos. My grandfather on that side was a slave owned by a Spaniard. Yes, slavery still existed a little over a hundred years ago in south amercia, it only ended here about a little over 150 years ago... He was set free and then went to a city to wait on tables and saved everything he made for months so he could go back and buy his mother. My other parent grew up as an only child on a farm during the depression in america. Many days, if they wanted meat that day, they had to shoot something around the farm that day. Squirrel, a rabbit, pigeon. Again, no food stamps, no welfare, etc. I think of conditions in India, many parts of africa... There are thousands of rapes and murders almost daily in the Congo in africa, and most are committed by police officers and soldiers who are supposed to be protecting those people. Again, I am not trying to make light of america's poor. They need help, but I can't agree that they are among the world's poorest or the worst off there has ever been. Hundreds of millions go to bed without dinner? There are only 400 million in the US. You think 1 in 4 people in Americans can't get a meal tonight? I think you need a reality check before you go crying and blaming any one group of people. If you don't have a realistic view on the problem, I doubt you will realistically do much good in helping to solve it.

You need to check your facts. The major health probllem with poor people in the USA is too much unhealthy food, not too little. Obesity is much more likely to be a cause of death of the poor in this country than starvation.

Surveys that ask "have you ever gone hungry because of lack of money" are misleading at best.

I have missed plenty of meals because I didn't have an ATM card on me or any cash on hand.

Most conservatives are very generous towards people who have legitimately fallen on hard times or have real problems.

The problem is, that many people in this country are simply victims of their own bad choices- they never studied hard in school, did not do their homework, don't show up on time for work, did not work hard for their employer, were not careful about getting pregnant or getting other people pregnant, got involved in crime or dishonest activities, waste money and time on booze, drugs, or lottery tickets, or watch too much TV.

It is hard to have much sympathy for these types of people, when in other parts of the world there are people who truly have little or no control or choice in their own well being.

This is the land of opportunity. Plenty of single parents have made it here. You can do it too.

Turn off the TV, give up the beer and cigarettes, and make something with your life!

You are wrong. You surely must not have been around much.
You haven't seen poor until you visit other countries (Haiti,
Mexico, Africa, Ethiopa, Venezuela and many more) and see
how the poor live in cardboard boxes, or homemade rock
lean-to, or paper lean-to's or tents and eat some kind of
liquid flour/water mixture, and have flies in their eyes and
nose, and have huge bellys from starvation. I haven't seen
that in the United States. Almost every town has soup
kitchens, churches, and other places set up to feed the poor
every day free. Some churches and other designated places
give out free groceries to the poor. There are tons of good
samaritans who hand out free clothing, free coats and
mittens, and clothes and toys at Christmastime, Thanksgiving
food baskets are handed out every year to the poor. And, of
course, the government is always giving hand-outs to the
poor. How dare you blame America first!!!!!!!! This country
is the first to give hand-outs. The first to help those who are in
need. The first to pay hospital bills for those who haven't the
means to pay their bills. The first to set up soup kitchens to
feed the poor and homeless. Conservatives and liberals both
care about the poor, on this we all agree. We put our money
where our mouth is. You should be thankful and greatful.
I'm disappointed in your question (and statement).

Yes in relative terms to the rest of the society. The division between the poorest and the richest is greater than anywhere else.
If you need an indication of poverty in the USA just look at the condition of New Orleans a year after the disaster.
It would be a disgrace for any country never mind the richest the world has ever seen.

I have been in many third world countries. Most of the poor there would consider poor americans to be rich. The poor here has electricity, clean water, shelter, and food. I don't think there is a truly poor person in this country. You may think you are poor, but that is in comparison to others in the richest nation on earth. You should be thankful you live where you do. Believe me, it could be much worse.

Oh my. You must be very very young to not know that the poorest child in America has 10 times more than some kids do in other countries! And if you are that poor you shouldn't be having babies, you are the ones then making those poor kids suffer!

Because we are a nation of over achievers! If you are gonna be poor than be PissPoor, I say! Or people can stop complaining, get off their asses and work like the rest of us. Its not that the conservatives don't care, but there is only so much they can do when the people don't want to work!
I am a LIBERAL and my husband and I work our asses off to wake ends meet and take care of our family. We get NO govt. assistance. If somebody is holding atleast one job and trying to make ends meet but they can't then and only then should the govt. give handouts. But this crap about sitting around and collecting a check.....I don't think so.
If you need a job, join the military, They are in need of help!!! Instead of complaining about the govt. do something about it. Apparently you aren't too poor if you can still get online!

We're all on the same sinking ship, but the government as a whole does not care about the people they are supposed to be representing. My husband and I have been out of work since November. Our child had heart surgery an we could not afford to pay. We almost lost her because by the time the paperwork went through so she could have surgery she almost died. Because they waited her heart enlarged and she may have to have another surgery. Now both my husband and I are educated, but neither of us can find work and so many people are out of work and unemployed that once the unemployment runs out they are taken off the unemployment list. To keep the government numbers low. But neither the Republicans nor the Democrats care why? Because all of them are rich. We live in an ultra capitalistic society where even the government tries to find ways to wean it's people out of there blood and sweat earnings. Alot of people cannot afford day care to work at a minimum wage jobs which will not even pay for your gas to and from work. People are just plain worn out. There are no breaks anymore. And even if you may want to change your circumstances you can'nt do it because you have to pay a permit fee for that. There are alot of people that care, and want to change the way things work, but they are all poor and on there last leg please don't bleed us anymore.

well seeing as how the estimated population of america is 300 million i doubt that 100,s of millions here go hungry, that would be at least 1 out of 3 ppl, and the fact is 1 out of 3 ppl here are obese, but i agree that something should be done about the ppl that Do go hungry, maybe if the obese ppl started sharing their food, we could kill 2 birds with one stone
