The board of governors can do it. He really has took a good chunk of the action out of the game, less hits, and it always seems like the officials think theyre the show. I love the NHL, but Bettmans just trying to make a carbon copy of the NBA.

I think that they honestly should have let him go a long time ago, but they are going to probably keep him around for a long time, which is going to be devastating for the game of hockey. Lets look at his resume at whats gone on during his tenure as Commissioner: two lockouts, including one that has wiped out an entire season, teams struggling for attendance, marketing taking a nosedive as the league is constantly losing millions every year, and hockey not being watched in the U.S. This guy has basically destroyed the game, and the govenors are probably going to reward him with an extension that will go at least til the end of the current CBA, which is til like 2011 or 2012, so don't expect to see him gone any time soon, but I think that would be the best course of action. They need someone who knows something about marketing who also loves the game and can try and sell the game in the U.S. the way that it used to be played, not by bringing in new ways to play the game to try and bring the old fans back. They need a new commissioner who can manage the league in a way similar to that of the NFL, where they are able to sell out every single game, even in cities where their teams are pitiful (ie Detroit and Houston) and their marketing system is the benchmark for all other professional sports leagues. The NHL needs to try and adapt that system to their sport and see what happens. But first get rid of Bettman. He has ruined the game.

fire bettman. imagine this. you owned an NHL team for 25 years. when you first bought it 25 years ago, you paid $75,000 for it. it's now worth $250 million, thanks to bettman's expansion money, the salary cap, bettman letting salaries skyrocket, etc. would u fire him?

Folks, that's the reality. Bettman made a lot owners even richer than they are and made NHL ownership almost sexy. the board of governors won't fire him. in fact, they gave him a juicy contract & all the power to do anything he wants with the league.

do i like him or his actions? hell no! He has no grasp of the game, nor of what's good for the game and his decisions show it. the sad thing is, we can't get rid of "the count"

This years all-star game is the final straw for Bettman.Playing it on Tuesday on the Versus channel instead of the weekend on NBC translated into a 76% drop in viewership from the 2004 game. This goes to show that he doesn't have any common sense. Please fire Bettman and replace him with Wayne Gretzky..

The league will unfortunately never fire him.

As for what i think of him....he's like a virus. One that can't be eliminated. You can only keep a virus dormant, but once it has an outbreak, the effects are horrendous.

Just like Bettman. He won't go away. Once he goes into outbreak mode, we are left with pathetic schedules, horrible tv contracts, and an all star game that nobody knew what happened in cuz nobody watched it. Please find a cure......

the NBA cannot hold a candle to the NHL. Bettman is doing very well for the NHL.

Now Moron Selig on the other hand......

Most of the owners have a soft spot for him because of the salary cap and they pull the strings, but he is a moron. The NBA does WAY better than the NHL by the way.

Bettman is the package his momma should have swallowed! he has turned the best game to watch into ice capades with his stupid changes. It looks like us hockey fans are stuck with him til his contract is up...its gonna be a long time before we see the last of that idiot!

Personally, think he should be hung, stabbed, shot, then beaten and set on fire
But I also think he's here for a while
He's in VERY tight with the owners and GM's and let's face it, they carry a lot of weight with the NHL
So bring on the "free throws" from the blue-line

Who has the authority to fire him?? I think he should've left a long time ago....It's probably a bunch of political B.S. and butt kissing that's kept him this long.
