I would stick with Xp.
I would love to give my reason why but basically:

Vista is not completed
Full of bugs
Lack of technical support
Xp is easier to use (and fix)
Many applications are not yet Vista compatible.

So what's turning people off of Vista? Here's my take, in order of importance:

1) Price. There's no way around this one. Upgrading to Vista doesn't just mean spending up to $400 on software, but also cash on RAM and video card upgrades, or buying a new PC altogether. If Vista was a $100 upgrade that anyone could use, it'd be a top seller, I'm sure.

2) Nothing new to see here. Love the visual style, but does photo tagging and 3-D window flipping really merit an upgrade?

3) It's annoying. I don't know any Vista user who hasn't turned off User Account Control, which nags you with an "Are you sure????" prompt every time you try to do anything beyond run the calculator. Yet UAC is the linchpin of Vista's vaunted new security system. Without it, it's really no different than XP.

4) Tons of stuff is incompatible with Vista. An acquaintance of mine got a new PC with Vista preinstalled. Neither her scanner nor her printer had Vista drivers ready. Both peripherals cost several hundred bucks, and now they're essentially paperweights (though the printer, at some unforseeable time in the future, may work again). Lots of software won't run on Vista, either, but it's the hardware incompatibilities that are daunting. (Update: Looks like the scanner driver's finally ready.)

5) It's confusing. Everything that XP could do, Vista can do... only it's buried under a different menu and it has a new name. While average users probably never use many of these settings, power users have found themselves starting from scratch to relearn Windows.

6) It's busted. Try connecting to a printer on your network that's hooked up to an XP machine. Or try downloading a file with a third-party application and then accessing it via another PC on the network. I won't go into a list of the endless bugs and flaws with the design of Vista, because I don't really have to: Vista needs a Service Pack already.

Get XP

You have the option to purchase Vista but put XP on your machine. While this may sound strange, there is not a great difference in price, and then once Microsoft comes out with service pak 1 then 2 then 3, you will have the COA that can be used to upgrade to a finally fully patched Vista. Do not confuse this with the certificate that allows you to upgrade an XP machine that you buy before the end of this month. Tell your computer builder that you want to purchase Vista with an XP load. Contact Microsoft if you want to verify this.

Microsotf made Vista look Fancy! Thats all! but IN reality! Microsoft sucks by now, Vista is not even done, Never was XP either...updates came later, same will happen with Vista!...meaning that still have the same errors and crashes nothing changed except 4 all the crap that they inlcude 2 make Vista look better Than Mac Os, u should know that Microsoft with the New Vista Copied many things from Apple Mac Os...Belive it its true! Microsoft is not Progresing at all,

Vista is not completed
Full of bugs
Lack of technical support
Many applications are not yet Vista compatible.

STAY WITH XP if u have it...for Vista u may have to UPgrade ur PC , New Graphic Cards, Extra Memory RAM etc...

Xp is better then Windows Vista due to there are no bugs in XP that have not been fixed. Windows Vista is still like a Beta version and will have many bugs in it until they bring out the upgraded version.

I have been reading up on Vista and it sounds like it is really buggy. I would go with XP right now and wait for them to debug Vista. It sounds like some of your peripherals won't work and you will have to pony up money to get them to work. XP, though far from perfect, is much better than the VISTA I have been reading about, so stay with XP.
