So there is this history project that i have to do in school. Right now, we're learning about WWI, WWII, the Nazi's, Facism... all that good stuff. This presentation that we have to make is centered around the idea that we learn about all these people like Stalin and Hitler and all these people who've commited horrible crimes, yet we forget to acknowledge those who did good in that time period. Those who made the choice to risk their own life to save others. So, my question to you is, who is someone often overlooked in that time period who saved a life. The magnitude of the "saving" doesn't matter. It just had to have made an impact. A Hero... I'm having trouble finding one. This person can be from any country, any age, anybody. A Hero....

I agree with the writer who says that every person who fought was a hero.

Possibly some of the bravest were those who fought in the Resistance as they were in occupied territory and could be found out easily.

The french , dutch, poles , belgians, Nowegians, Danes and yugoslavs all had resistance fighters who waged geurilla war against the occupying forces.

The British had "the cockleshell heros", the Australians "Z-Force and the Kriat" there was also the German fallshurmjager ( paratroops) and the Commonwealth commando units.

There are endless stories of heroes from the war, the Dambusters, the raid on the iron coast and the sinking of the Bismark and the Prinz eugen.

There is so much info around you can easily do a good assignment

Heroes come in all sizes and types. There are the more obvious such as Sergeant York in World War I or Audie Murphy in World War II (both awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor).

At the same time a hero can be an organization such as the World War I “Lost Battalion” (the 308th Regiment with 3 awards of the Medal of Honor). Or, World War II the 442nd Regiment made up of the Japanese Americans or the Tuskegee African-American pilots.

Charles Lindberg was surely a hero in his solo flight over the Atlantic.

During World War II the reporters Ernie Pyle and Bill Mauldin should be considered heroes.

There are many heroes of those years.

King Christian X and the people of Denmark.

There were approximately 7,500 Jews in Denmark at the beginning of WWII. When the order to deport them was received, the Christian Danes leaked it to their Jewish neighbors. The entire country helped to protect, hide, feed, and eventually transport the majority of Jews to neutral Sweden. The few that were captured were kept in Denmark because of Danish pressure which protected them from the death camps further east. Ninety-nine percent of Danish Jews survived WWII because of the kindness of their King & countrymen.

Furthermore, when Danish Jews returned home after the war, they found that their Christian neighbors had cared for their homes, gardens, personal effects and even their pets.

Let's Hear 3 Cheers For Denmark!!!
