No. Becomming dialated is a natural thing that occurs during birth - it's not something you can make happen. Theres no chance of being able to do the splits while giving birth. Once you are a mum you will understand how excruciating the pain is. And even if, by some miracle, you were able to do the splits it wouldnt make the birth any easier - it would more likely make it worse because you wouldnt be able to use your pelvic muscles that are used during childbirth because of the position you are in. I know you are just curious so I hope this helps you out.

No. How wide your legs are spread has nothing to do with ease of birth (unless you're trying to keep them closed- don't do that). I heard a legend like this that was believed by a native american tribe hundreds of years ago... but I'm pretty sure everyone left in the tribe goes to a hospital and has the baby just like everyone else now at least.

when you give birth your cervix dilates (thins, stretches out) so that the baby can pass through into the vagina and finally out of your body.
the cervix is not connected to the muscles in your legs/hips/wherever that allow you to do the splits. it's located at the base of your uterus, in your lower abdomen. being able to do the splits has nothing to do with your cervix thinning and effacing.
there's no connection there, bud.
however, if you can do the splits, chances are you're physically fit. being fit is supposed to help you push a baby out, but plenty of unfit people give birth with ease as well.

Totally different structures are used for splits and giving birth!!
Your cervix only dilates during birth no other time.
Apparently belly dancing and yoga is extremely good at helping deal with the pain of contractions but nothing helps your cervix!

No, it is not true. And when you are giving birth one of the last things on your mind would be trying to do splits.

That would be impossibe. There is too much pain involved to worry about doing splits at the same time. Whoever told you that probably fell on their head while their mum was doing the splits.

Um, spreading your legs does not make the baby come more quickly. It's INSIDE of you that has to stretch - -the cervix. Can't stretch it by splitting!!

huh what thats a new one to me no that does not work there is no easy way around it but you know what you could split down there as in your va-jay-jay area if the baby is way to big.you can ask your doctor to massage the vaginal opening that helps it not to tear

I don't know about that, but I know that some women prefer to squat while pushing. It seemed to help with me.
