the saying should be "sometimes the truth hurts".
but we should differentiate between facts and truth, we only use the phrase "I'm going to tell you the truth now" after saying a lie or something like that, you either get the facts right at the beginning, or get a lie and then hear the truth, which hurts in some situations...
so the kind of lie before the truth is the one we should focus on, if it's a white lie that does not hurt anyone, like you're preparing for a surprise party for a Friend and you lied a little, the truth later won't hurt...
but the kind of lie accompanied with deceive and wrong doing, the truth after will hurt no matter what...

Because it is aimed at you! The truth is not subjective, and it is not open to interpretation. Truth is cold, hard, and has a razor edge to it. It's tough to sugar coat or dull down because anything that covers it up in any way, prevents it from being the truth. There are a few genuinely gifted people who can tell the truth well, but most people are so afraid of it themselves, they tend to be clumsy with it.
If you want clues as to how to use truth study the Parables of Jesus. I am sure there are other examples from other great philosophers and religions, but those were the first that came to mind for me. Hope this helps.

If you mean Like saying Honey I Love your Hair when actually you hate it. Now if you said Honey I hate your hair, your A** is grass and shes the Lawn Mower. I like to think of those as Little white Lies. I hate hurting anyones feelings, but if you did tell the truth, you would Hurt them. So YES the Truth can Hurt, But I do strive to also be TruthFull unless its gonna Hurt someone mentally or physically.

Because humans are hopeful and optimistic beings by nature(even the worst cynic). When we hear the truth about something we hoped wasnt true, it goes against our grain and makes us question our whole way of looking at things. Finding out the truth of something requires us to grow up a little more, taking a little more of our blissful ignorance with it. Truth hurts because "Knowledge is Sorrow".

The truth only hurts when a person has a hard time admitting to themselves they have a problem in the first place. That is why when someones says things to them, most of the time they will get defensive, but its because deep down they know it is true.

Yes the truth hurts. If we become comfortable living a lie, then the reality--the truth--does hurt.

When we have set in our minds that an UN-truth is real to us, for some people it becomes difficult to admit that we were wrong in what ever case may be. Sometimes we can be so convinced in our head that whatever we think is right is right, but reality is that it was so wrong...and boy do we hate to be wrong. If we can just admit that sometimes we are wrong a little more often than not, I think it would not hurt so much when we finally come clean.

because we all want to believe that the world is good and life is good but really it's just hard - life is life and nature takes it's course and bad things happen every day and there seems to be no rhyme or reason alot of the time - well if your not born w/ a silver spoon in your mouth. We want to believe that we can work hard and make our lives and the world a better place...but the reality is that horrible things still happen no matter how hard we try to make this world a better place - we have no control and the Truth shows us just how little control we have and that is quite frightening to human beings.
