To begin with, the first poster is correct. Intel and AMD are the CPU manufacturers and Celeron is a type of CPU made by Intel so whoever is giving the thumbs down needs to cut him some slack because the answer is not wrong.

Now more specifically, a Celeron is the budget line of Intel's line of CPUs. It's designed mainly for bargain based PCs used in the home or office. Not really great for games or media applications but fine for internet browsing and spreadsheets. It's the Honda Civic of CPUs. It's not going to give you the best performance available, but it will do the job for everyday work. The AMD equivalent to the Celeron is the Sempron line which is more or less in the same type of market. So if you're getting a PC for the latest games don't get a Celeron... Get an Intel Core 2 Duo (or AMD Athlon FX) based system if you prefer. If you just want something economical and functional a Celeron for basic computing is fine.

There is no difference between Intel and Celeron except the fact that Intel created the Celeron processor. AMD is another company that creates PC processors like the Athlon. Between both Intel and AMD, depending on how you would use your computer, there really is no major difference. AMD is considered a cheaper processor but still good. Celeron is a real cheap POS.

Celeron is poor quality and runs very poorly. There have also been over heating issues as well.

Intel is extremely good at running applications such as Office, media etc very quickly

AMD are gaming specialist and hence design most hardware for gaming systems, however at an extra price.

My advise, unless you want an extremely good gaming system, stick to Intel. However is you have the money for AMD, it will serve you better in the future.

Intel and AMD are also computering hardware companies.
