Cocaine was put in Coca Cola. In fact, it was the main ingredient until it was discovered caffeine is more addictive. I have never heard anything about Coca Cola given to slaves, because some slaves barely get a meal every week.

Coca cola had a small amount of cocaine in it before people realized it was a dangerous narcotic.
Coca cola was invented long after slavery was abolished. The cocaine was just to give it a kick, kinda like caffeine and sugar does now, but more intense i guess.

There used to be small amount of cocaine in Coca Cola, but Coca Cola was not invented until the 20th century. There were no slaves at that time.

Coca Cola was originally invented as a medication and was sold in pharmacies. Cocaine was a natural ingredient in one of the ingredients in the soda and it wasn't realized until much later (after it was being sold as a beverage) that the cocaine was addictive. It was then removed from the soda and people were no longer addicted to it.
It was never something that was added to the medicine but it was something that had to be removed because of the addiction properties in it.
And this has nothing to do with slavery.

There was no Coca Cola when slavery was abolished January !st 1863. Coca Cola came about in 1885. That is just another rumor that was made up like poisoning Kool cigarettes and Churches Chicken to make black men sterile...This silliness has got to stop.

It did contain cocaine, but the slave half of that seems total rubbish, see:
http://snopes.com/cokelore/cocaine.asp (provides four more sources at bottom of page, look them up), and note especially the closing quote:
"When it first became general knowledge that cocaine could be harmful, the backroom chemists who comprised Coca-Cola at the time (long before it became the huge company we now know) did everything they could with the technology they had available at the time to remove every trace of cocaine from the beverage. What was left behind (until the technology improved enough for it all to be removed) wasn't enough to give a fly a buzz."

Coke and slaves were in different time slots, so that wouldn't work out. But there is a persistant rumor that cocaine was an ingredient in early batches of coke, and it's quite possible. A hundred years ago, people had totally different outlooks on the use of drugs. Opium was still legal, and it was quite appropriate for people to take all sorts of drugs -- including ether, because those taking it would say and do silly things.
