I like the first one from TX_Dianna, short and funny. However; if you want a good, catchy opening try twisting your topic within the opening that will have your audience in awe and wondering "Gee, I never thought of that..." That will have them tune in and listen to everything you have to say. You can say something like this:
Have you ever wonder how can one detect a lie? Well, we all have and this is why I chose to emphasize the lie detector. Employment, courts and higher departments utilize this device but can this object trusted by so many actually be a lie itself?

"For all you know, everything in this material I am about to present could be lies--all lies and made-up material. Wouldn't be great if there were someway to be able to tell if I am giving you true facts about my topic, or just pulling the wool over your eyes? Well, as a matter of fact, there IS a way to tell if someone is lying or not, which is the subject of my report...."

You could use "Can you handle the truth?"
And I didn't "get" it from anywhere - just my head.
