Tankers sure pound a lot of the ground as do artillerymen. Both of these are combat arms. Mechanized Infantry needs a better education to understand the computers in the new 8 wheeled fighting vehicle.

Most missile systems from SAMs to the Patriot are combat MOS that require some good knowledge and will involve computers.

However, the Combat Arms may use a lot of computers, but they don't service them, and they don't learn how the system works, they only learn which button to punch. The same is true in the Communication Branches and most other branches. If you want to be a KNOWLEDGABLE solider instead of a SOLDIER who is knowledgeable then you should go into the repair and servicing or combat support services.

I was a draftsman, which seems like a non-combat arms, but I was under the Engineers Branch and I had to go to the field and learn how to fight. I was once stationed with a Combat Engineer Unit who had just gotten out of the war in Granada. My first post did a lot of construction work; we were also assigned to the same division as the 82 airborne and would provide them support in the field if they went to war. We were a Heavy Engineer Unit; filled with people who worked the contracting trades like plumbing, brick laying etc. We were also bridge layers and were expected to be able to lay a bridge across a river while under fire.

The Army is combat orientated and almost every MOS will have its combat aspects. Even computer professionals would be required to work in the field; in the middle of the woods or a desert inside of a tent near the front lines.

I don't know the Marines as well, but their primary job is to be a complete invasion service that can hit the beach fighting and hold that land for 90 days. In the Marines the first MOS for every single Marine is Rifleman. Even embassy guards may have to resort to fighting infantry style tactics to support their diplomatic mission. Wearing Dress Blues and pulling guard duty is by far the smallest part of a Marine's job. Remember that in WW2 the Army took on Europe, while the Marines took on the pacific, they had no Army support and that meant no support from the Army Air Corp that later became the Air Force. The Marines are entirely internal and they only rely on the Navy for transport and artillery fire.

I can only say one thing 13F. I am currently in AIT for it and I love it. As a Fire Support specialist I am Eyes of Death of the Field Artillery. My job is to be a Forward Observer. The SGTs that instruct us tell us about the job all the time, and it is really something. We get to call in all types of artillery. Many times, you will get assigned with an infantry platoon. So when things get hot, you are the one with the real power on the battlefield. I am also hoping to become JFO qualified later so that I can call in helicopters and jets.

i'm an 89D which occurs to be wrestle service help. it truly is my activity to facilitate the maneuver commanders ability to flow his sources properly on the conflict area. If one among them encounters an explosive threat, yet another unit will grant protection for me and escort me to the unit who has to stay and protect the explosive threat until eventually i'm getting there. regardless of the truth that i'm no longer in a wrestle MOS, i'm a stress multiplier and that i own the in reality MOS it truly is authorized to finish ideas on all established, chemical, nuclear ordnance and IEDs. there are a range of different MOSs like EOD that maneuver commanders can use in there conflict area and in no way all of them are wrestle MOSs. And sure, i'm getting shot at to.
