For the most part yes but I see a dangerous slide toward socialism. We need to get back to the Constitution. Small Federal Government and more States rights. Thomas Jefferson (I believe) said that a government that is rich enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have.

Of course we're still free. All media hysteria to the contrary, what right has anyone actually lost? If the worst infringement on personal liberties we have to endure is that we are not allowed to take our Bic lighters aboard an airplane, I'd say we're doing just fine.

Before someone gets all excited about the wiretapping non-issue, let me remind people that calls were only recorded which originated outside the US and came from numbers known to be used by terrorists. If you are not talking to terrorists overseas, there was no wiretapping. If you are, I'm not too concerned with your loss of rights.

That is an excellent question. It seems like with the more time progresses, the less freedom we have. Many people believe that things like having cameras on highways to monitor speed is a necessary evil- and I will admit that it does control the traffic speeds on highways- but it seems to be a catch 22. It's like when we gain one plus, we lose another. We are being duped into sacrificing our privacy (which is a big part of our freedom) for so-called extensive safety measures.
I have a story that's way more stupid than cameras on highways though--

A year and a half ago when I turned 16, I went to the DMV to get my ID card done, and you would not believe the amount of hassle they gave me! I had to provide like five different forms of ID just to get my ID!!! I had every piece of ID they asked me for except, the ORIGINAL copy of my birth certificate. Yeah, I had a photo copied version of my birth certificate and they would not accept it!
Mind you, I am 100% American. Both sides of my family are completey american. . . but I was treated like a foreigner with illegal documentation that day.
It's like nowadays- with the US accommodating so many foreigners (not that I have anything against them) the rules have changed for people who are from America.
We have bent over backwards to appease so many people within our little "melting pot" that we have even gone as far as to change our pledge of allegiance!!!

Now that is a damn shame. . . .

Will they be discounted? Then I guess I shouldn't blame the liberals for trying to make it not free? I wouldn't want my answer to be discounted.

I think anyone who is so selfish and short-sighted as to think America isn't the freest nation on earth should move to Venezuela or Iran and live where they are TRULY oppressed.

No one makes me wear a burka or any other veiling. No one, thank God, forces young girls in this country to be "circumcized" - which is really a mutilation. No one is forced to go to church, no one is forced NOT to go to church. Of course, the liberals *are* trying to tell us where to smoke, what to eat, how to raise our kids, but all in all, we have a hell of a lot of freedom.

I think that most of us are entirely too spoiled and have NO appreciation for how good we have it here.

To an extent yes..are we truly free? No
It's only going to get worse though because both parties are slowly chipping away at our rights.

Yes, we are free, though we have laws, these laws help keep the peace.

No! You have limited free speech rights and there is a law about everything else. We have not been truly free in a long time!

Hell, you don't even own your house after it is paid off! Miss a couple years worth of taxes and see what happens to your property!
