I cannot tan, I have very pale skin that cannot tan. I have tried fake tans but they look very artificial on my skin and I'm not very good at putting them on anyway. Is there a tablet with some sort of dye in it that could make me look tanned? I would be happy with even a little colour.

Hi! I feel your pain! I am also quite pale. I do get a slight tan, but this is usually accompanied by suburn and/or heat rash and/or prickly heat!

First off, as you obviously seem to be aware seeing as you haven't suggested going on a sunbed, there is no such thing as a healthy tan. Your skin becomes brown from the sun because it is DAMAGED, whether or not you burn. I tell this to my best friend, who tans very easily. Of course, I am jealous of her because she looks smokin with her blonde hair and dark skin - but hopefully in 15 years, my skin will show the benefits of staying away from the rays! As will yours :-)

Incidentally, I am often attracted to pale women. It looks more mysterious, enigmatic, sophisticated and confident - unless worn with two-sizes-too-small polyester clothing and gold hoop earrings. You're probably tired of the 'pale and interesting' reassurances though, so i'll tell you this.....

Dove Summer Glow. It's 2-for-1 in Boots at the moment. It is a moisturiser with a small amount of self tan added to it. In my opinon, it smells a LOT better than Johnson's Holiday Skin. It makes your skin very soft and soaks in quite quickly. It costs about £5 in most shops. It gives a light tan after 5 days, so it wouldn't be too strong for you, and you should be able to use it on your face.

I wonder what self tans you've used before? If you're feeling brave one day, try Boots Soltan Sun Shimmer. It only costs about £6 (much cheaper than the others on the market) and if you only want a light colour, apply only once or twice a week. It not orangey or fake looking. Boots Soltan also do an applicator mitt that you put over your hand for easier application. Definitely use this instead of gloves or bare hands, as you get less streaks. Soltan Sun Shimmer contains a guide tint and a shimmer, so when you're putting it on you can see if you've missed any bits. A tip - if you apply it before bed and have a quick shower in the morning (using only water), it will rinse off the guide colour, make your tan look lighter and will also even it out.

I hope this helps :-D

xx Emmie

oh, PS - this pill that you've heard of is a pill that you have to take 4-6 times per day, for 3 months prior to going on holiday/tanning in the sun. It changes your body slightly and they claim it helps your skin to tan in the sun more easily. In other words, it allows your skin to be damaged more easily! Dove Summer Glow, that's what you need.

Getting a tan natures way is actually bad for us! Sounds like you may have used to dark a tan! If you can afford it go to a salon for an air-brushed one! Try one of the new moisturisers that contains just a little tanning lotion! It is easier to apply and if used regularly softens those areas that often show up a fake tan! Knees and ankles are often drier than the surrounding skin! You can control the amount of tan as it takes several days to build up! You stop applying it when your happy and then just use once or twice weekly to keep it refreshed!

fake tans are ok as long as you know how to put them on. The best trick is to coat the area that your tanning with moisturiser first. This will make it a lot harder for streaks to appear. However, if your not confident Johnsons sun fake tan is best used daily and it has a tint of moisturiser and fake tan and you can stop when you are happy with the colour.

Use a tanning creme, like Johnson's holiday skin, or nivea etc. Try one for light/fair skin. It builds up gradually, and is really easy to apply. The tan with these lotions is much better than ordinary fake tan, not orange or smelly!

I didn't believe it at first but the Jergen's Healthy Glow lotion actually works, it smells really good too. From the first time you put it on you can already see a little hint of color and it makes your skin soft, the more often you put it on the deeper the "tan" gets, it doesn't look orange either it looks completely natural.

Go to have it professionally done with an airbrush, You should request a very very light tan. That way you won't come out looking orange, there is a tablet but it doesn't last very long.

There is a self tanner available in spray forn and pads, it works with your melanin in the skin and tans you naturally. If you are too white, you can build it up gradually. I cant remember the name at the moment but will def. find out. They sell it via TV and i have seen really white skin get tanned....

actually, even the palest of skin can tan. A tanning salon can do that. even 'warmth' from bare minerals. but there was a dye I believe called 'olay'. Unless your skin 'won't' not 'can't' tan
