In the context of the debate between Gnostic Christians and Orthodox Christians, a few men made the decisions regarding truth. Why do some get to decide what is true while minority opinions are rejected?

It's brute power. Through a legislative justification the truth was decided, and then the rest of history proceeded to forget there was ever any dispute. If challenged, the dissenter faced too great a rivalry and met with physical torture or death.

The only time minorities win is when they either clandestinely influence the majority, or when they clandestinely are the majority.

A LITTLE HISTORY
Because of man. From Adam to today Man does not think like God. We are seperated except by that of his son Jesus.
For man's thoughts is neither God’s Thoughts nor are man's ways God's ways
(Isaiah 55:8) (Whole Chapter)
"For My thoughts are not [Is 65:2; 66:18] your thoughts, Nor are [Is 53:6] your ways My ways," declares the LORD.
(John 3:16) (Whole Chapter)
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ( [James Moulton and George Milligan, The Vocabulary.] unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

When the Roman Catholic Church lead by Constantine a Caesar, First POPE. Decided that he was the full authority on the Bible because of his mother and the strife that had come between and against each side of beliefes and Gnostic Christianity won over the Greek Orthodox Church and was ruled out because of some misunderstanding of scripture at that time. Something about living under the law of God and some other things. Thus The Gnostic Christians and Orthodox Christians were made to be at peace with each other by a Roman Caesar whom did not accept Jesus until his death bed day. At that point the Canonization of the bible was made. Some 300 AD there or about. As a result of this many books and some chapters of the book of books of the bible were left out because he and the controlers of the Roman Church did not think them important to be kept in. Example there are only 10 chapters in Esther but in reality there are 16 I believe. The book of Thomas was never included as well as some others. The Roman’s won and So did Satan in a way. Never the less, allot of God's Truth is in that book and it should be well-paid attention to. Nor does this negate disobeying God's Ways. The Best Example of God's ways is Isreal. This is how he wants to be celerberated and worshiped. Yes the Jew is God's people and not even todays the bibles says other wise. the main this is to know what God has to say about5 it. I think it's plan enough.

Good question. I think that if after research and personal evaluation it is perfectly fine to believe what you want to believe regardless of the mass opinion or the marketing that might have gone on to promote one over another.
And, religion is just like any other product. It has been marketed by certain people for certain reasons that may have nothing to do with truth and justice.

good question...something everyone should definitely think about.

my answer would be that what they "decided" was not really "Truth." real truth exists independent of anyone's decisions.

i think following the line of thought suggested by your question leads one to conclude that "truth" is not something accessible within subjective institutions like organized religion.

the usual counter-argument seems to be that these higher truths are obtained via the faculty of "faith;" but faith does not seem [to me] to be explainable in intersubjective terms without accepting that there is no rational basis for it--without rational basis, there can be no rational discussion--it is either accept or reject.

if people would truly consider the fact that the very doctrines they base their faith on were determined in the manner you refer to in your question, maybe they would realize the idiotic circularity of the notion of accepting things on an irrational basis.

if you haven't read it already, i'd recommend checking out the Euthyphro (by Plato).

Truth is truth whether they reject it or not. So, we should search for truth no matter what, because the truth will set us free.

influence...

and I don't think they get to decide anything. Truth, in this sense, is relative.
