I live about 20 miles from Enterprise. I graduated from that same high school...a long time ago. The pictures on tv don't do it justice, there is total devastation. Its a miracle thata more kids weren't killed.

Canceling school for every watch might result in a lot of missed days. By the time a specific warning is issued, it is probably too late to get the buses there and loaded up. Also the news mentioned some schools were let out at 11, this one was about to be let out. I'm wondering if it was different districts or the buses went to the elementary schools first, then the high school. In that case, they WERE sending the kids home. If the tornado had got there just when the buses were full and ready to leave, that would have been worse. I don't know how many of the homes had basements, that could have been worse, too. But I didn't hear of anyone at home getting killed.

It was truly a tragedy. I live in northeast Alabama in a small town called Altoona. We had an F5 tornado here a few years ago. The pictures you see on TV are nothing compared to seeing it in real life. The devastation is unbelieveable. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the people who were effected by this storm.

All of the schools here, and in the surrounding counties were let out early, but luckily it didn't get as bad as they expected it to in this area. You never know though. Better to be safe than sorry.

Storms in the south are scary. I my parents moved from Indiana to Tennessee in '02 so I go there quite a bit. The storms they have in the south are ferocious.

I agree, if they had send those kids home, they all might have been killed.
