Well, effaced just means that your cervix has thinned. Ideally, you should be at 100% when you deliver. I'm not sure how Effacement relates to the chances of being in labor. I know that cervix dilation isn't necessarily a determiner of labor because my cervix was at 3-4cm from my 7th-9th month because I went into preterm labor.
As long as you don't start having contractions, and especially if this is your first child, you might make it to your due date. But remember, 37 weeks is considered full-term so you could be going into labor as early as next week.
Good luck and congrats in advance!

It is tough to say. When I went into labor I was 80% effaced, and 3 cm. But this does not mean anything. You can go into labor and be 30% effaced, and 1 cm. It all depends on whe women, and the pregnancy. I know in order to be induced you have to be 70%effaced, and 2 cm. At least. But everyone is different. Just think of it this way, the longer your baby stays in, the healthier and better off he will be on the outside. His lungs would be more developed, and he will not have to be in ICU. I know how bad it sucks to wait, but the longer the better. I just had my son a month ago. congrats.

As a labor and delivery nurse, I can honestly tell you it could still be awhile. Your cervix needs to thin out (efface) and dilate (open). Your baby is only about 36-37 weeks. That is a very iffy age. The likelihood that every thing will be ok is on the line. Lung maturity is very important that last month. My advice it to take it easy and enjoy the life that is growing inside you. As hard and uncomfortable it is now, just think until every 3 hour feedings. Now that is uncomfortable. Good luck to you and your beautiful baby.

Well, I was 2 cm dialated with my 2nd baby for 3 weeks before my c-section and I still hadn't gone into labour. So, you could definitely go to your due date. It does drag on at the end, doesn't it! If you are anxious and just can't wait, try telling yourself that by April 15th you will have a baby in your arms. Then when it (I hope for your sake) happens sooner you will be pleasantly surprised. On the other hand, you could go into labour tonight...you just never know. My first baby was 3 weeks early. Just try and relax and enjoy this time, it goes by so fast. Good luck!

It could still be a long time, especially if this is your first baby. You body will take a while to get ready to give birth. Hopefully you will deliver early, but I wouldn't count on it! Have fun, it's an exciting time.
