Tough eagles have very powerful talons (700lbs/square inch) and can break bone, if it is caught off guard by a large predator as you have mentioned it is pretty much done for. If it is caught it is either ill / injured or feeding. In the best case scenario it is caught off guard by an extremely powerful and efficient predator, not good. If it were your average house cat however ... different story to say the least.

IS their a way? Surely there could be, but in most cases if an eagle is caught off guard so utterly that it is on teh ground long enough or low enough to the ground, that it can be caught b y said predators it is not well.

If you are asking something like beast wars on tv, an eagle is in itself a deadly predator and should it have teh capicity to engage in combat in that manner, it has the advantage of flight, grasping claws, and a powerful bite/beak.

It could whip out it's pecker! Eagles are known for having impressive peckers, the other animal would run away in shame after seeing the Eagle's impressive pecker!
