Sounds like your kids are of "that age" God help you. You're gonna need it. But just remember the he** you gave to your parents at that age.

I think we should stop making excuses for our children,I think that we all as parents have become to lax,we give too much.I know my own kids have way more than I ever did and it is just handed to them. They need to learn hard work, they need to earn the things they get.Somewhere along the way it became acceptable for kids to do what they want and basically take over and the blame all falls on the parents.I am not a perfect parent I know that. I think society has taken away our basic functions as parents, you can no longer spank you can no longer punish. TV has also corrupted their minds and so has games.I think we shoud go back to when kids were responsable for their actions not mommy and daddy,I think they should earn their place an the things they want

I'm 17 and i can say i am fine but some parenting is pretty bad and i know what you mean. Since i have a euopean background i have done a lot of dirty work around the house and the backyard but i think one needs that. To build character and to build what every human needs, an ability of work.

At my house growing up there was one boss and the rules were known by all of us. We ate as a family and talked about our day together. When you got a note from the teacher, your parent handled it in an parenting way. My father never hit any of us but we had a fear of him regardless. We respected our parents and were treated fairly.
There were no shows on t.v. that showed the parents being idiots or being anything other than a role model.
No Nanny 911 was needed. No "clean sweep" either.

then they worked in factories starting before they were teens,
worked 12-16 hours a day for pennies and got their hands dirty,
they dreamed up little things to keep their hands a little cleaner
and how to make more money for their work (the less intelligent
became the politicians of the day) when they grew up their children
were the computer generation (and we all know how "BAD" They
are) ----- missed a lot of steps in history here --
also missed the question, fault for what ??

I thin parents should teach the value of earning something, be it something material or respect.
There was a boy in my neighborhood that would go around asking for jobs to do because he was trying to raise money for a skateboard, etc. I always gave him extra because he had the initiative to go out there, ask people, and do actual work instead of whine to get his way.

You got a point, not to mention how many other things are different, often single parent families, one or both parents usually working, no one goes to church any more, lower and lower expectations, and not to mention the media, violent video games, nudity all over the t.v., as a society, we mimic what we see,' it's not so bad if so-and-so did it, everyone does it' don't get me started.

I think that it is a combination of lazy parents and the increasing technology of this world. With the internet, there are a lot more influences on teens that parents don't know how to cope with.

I dont think all the fault is in parenting but its important for a parent to have enough concern and patience to teach their children hard work, money wise too =]

I think you have a point, they do have life a lot easier than even 30 yeras ago and they have not learned the harsh lessons of life or the vaule of hard work or money. This doesn't explain why they are so dull though
