I am not a poligamist, nor could I ever live that lifestyle. However, I think that it should be legalized, and here's why:

-What goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults is none of the government's (or the neighbors') business. I bet we all do things that our neighbors and/or certain members of the government would find wrong.

-Ever watch Big Love? Yeah, I know it's fiction, but art often follows life. The main characters are all consenting adults, and they do not seem to be hurting anyone with their unconventional lifestyle. However, they KNOW that Roman, the 'prophet' is "marrying" little girls, and so are many of his cronies. Yet, they are not able to do anything about it without exposing themselves.

-Poligamy should be legalized so it can be regulated. One example: Since men with multiple wives are only legally married to one, the other wives are free to go on welfare, and they are bilking the government of millions of dollars.

What do you think?

I think an adult person can have as many spouses as he/she wants....As long as they are all working and supporting their own offspring and aren't living off the public dole and welfare.... I, the taxpayer, don't want to support them.

And thats the kicker. Most polygamist arrangements involve collecting welfare or aid to dependent children, etc. The man, being the head of household, doesn't hold down a job...he is too busy being "god"...Most of the women to whom he is "married" are uneducated or undereducated and, by the nature of the lifestyle, are unable to work or hold down a job.

So - they let you and me pay for their "religious" lifestyle....Just another bunch of deadbeat leeches feeding at the public trough.

If you are talking about polygamy, it should never be legal. (Try to do some legitimate research before you start spouting off lies and things you don't know anything about! And spell it right next time.)

This is because the current cases of polygamist families involve:
1) severe child and spousal abuse
2) families go on welfare because they can't afford the large families
3) forced teenage marriage - it isn't consenting adults when you FORCE 12 year olds to marry

If you count "Big Love" as evidence of this lifestyle, you are nuts! It doesn't follow real life and is TOTALLY fiction. I have heard of numerous interviews with FORMER sister wives that have escaped the cults. They ESCAPED because it was a living HELL!

Polygamy is wrong, illegal and it will always be illegal. Haven't you followed the trial of the Warren Jeffs? That is one sick puppy. All the destruction that horrible person did is criminal.

I'm polyamorous. I agree that it should be allowed for exactly your reasoning. We need to stop putting women in the position of being traded, and stop children from being sold. We can't do that if EVERYTHING must be kept secret.

There are so many complications, which spouse owns what interest in what, who has what rights and when? I think just foolin' around on the side would be preferable.

Reminds me of a joke:

It is IMPORTANT that a man have a woman that can cook.

It is IMPORTANT that a man have a woman with a career and her own money.

It is IMPORTANT that a man have a woman who loves sex.

BUT...it is MOST IMPORTANT that these three women never, ever meet.
