Herding C is the best answer. I once lived in a home where the previous family, for religious reasons, stored food. They did this incorrectly and the house was riddled with water bugs and roaches. I used Boric Acid, which you can get at a pharmacy or most hardware stores for about 5 to 10 bucks. Never saw another bug in the 5 years I lived there. While you do have to worry about pets, all you need to do is spread it the back of cabinets under the sinks, behind furniture where paets can't get at it and anywhere else where there is lots of cardboard or moisture. In short time your problems with bugs will be gone.

My best friend swears by borax . You can find it in drug stores and even some farm and home places . She says to sprinkle it around your base boards and cabinets and soon... no more bugs.
DO keep it away from animals and children, however.

Boric acid, which is a white powder. I wouldn't use it if you have pets or kids though.
