I have found some difficulty in finding a job. I keep hearing that a lot of times, employment agencies advertise jobs that they know don't exist. Is this true? If so, why do they do that?
Also, have you ever been scammed or stiffed by an employment agency? What happened? What should somebody do in a situation like that?

Well most jobs now days have contracts through employment agencies. I used to work for these temp. agencies until I talked to the manger and he told me how much the company was paying out to contract their employees. I was getting paid $10 an hr. the company was paying the employment agency $22 an hr. so I was receiving less than half of what the company was paying out. On top of that you still pay taxes out of what you make and it is even less. The reason why companies do this is so they do not have to pay employees benefits and forget it if you want to be hired on full time. Even if you are a good worker they will not take you on more often than not. As for fraudulent jobs they are just a lure to get people to be slaves for these companies. The companies that hire the employees win because they do not have to provide benefits and the employment agencies win because they profit from other peoples work so it's the person that just is trying to get by that suffers. But no one cares because that's what extreme capitalism has done to this country.

It isn't true in some cases. In Oct. 2005, I saw a file position posted on one of these staffing agencies and I sent my resume over through fax. After that, I received a callback telling me to interview with them and take tests on Word, excel, and typing. After that, I got interviewed and explain my background to the recruiter. She wanted to know how I knew OfficeTeam. I told her that the San Mateo county office has been calling me telling me to register with them, but I don't drive. So, I passed all the tests and she asked for a minimum of 3 references. After that, I was placed into the database. I got an assignment 3 days after my interview. After my first assignment was over, the division director told me that her staffing managers couldn't help me because I had no work experience. So, I registered with others and they continue slamming doors in my face. One day, my lucky break came. I finally found a position that was long term through a different agency, but 6 months at that position, the client decided to end my contract. The dept. I was working at was closing. So, my contact person told me to interview and "find" the positon myself. I am having trouble too finding the position because who would want to hire anyone with 6 months of work experience? So, I went back to OfficeTeam. However, my contact person told me to tell the division director to call her (she told me she was my supervisor). She wasn't. My contact person told me that she had to talk to my former supervisor at the company I previously worked at before getting any more assignments. I did get scammed by one because I saw a non-profit posted and my contact person from this agency told me that was the bank that I worked at. Lied again. Banks are not non -profit. So, I say, if one don't call you or never call you, I say call one and find one that specialize in your area of expertise. I am still with Officeteam. So, just continue calling or hoping that they have that position in the future. Good luck.
