"DJ" stands for disc jockey. These are the guys in clubs, parties, dances weddings, you name it. They're in charge of organizing/ selecting pre-recorded music and mixing tracks.

The term disc jockey was first used to describe radio announcers who would introduce and play popular records. These records, also called discs by those in the industry, were "jockeyed" (manipulated, controlled) by the radio announcers, hence the name disc jockey, which was soon shortened to DJs or deejays.

If you still aren't sure, just think back on the guy with the turntable in front of him, scratching a disc.

As you can see, DJ-ing has grown more complex. DJ are doing more special effects, and building up techniques like the ones in the video, rather than just simply playing the track anymore.

Disk Jockey is the longer version for a DJ.

A Disk Jockey is a person who takes music and modifies it or rather makes changes in the song to make it maybe more dance-y or cooler or whatever.. Anyways they're on radios and in dance clubs.

Back in the day, (when records crowded stores) people went to clubs and listened to music ect... well the people that played these as well as mixed/"scratched" them to make it all good for their customers.. Were disk Jockeys aka DJ's because they spun and scratched the dics. (which you cannot do now without severly harming your CD...

they play the records/cds/music at parties and other functions. like a sports jockey, i suppose, only with music...

the true meaning of a disc jocky was literally a person who swaps lp's or singles i:e jockying for position on the decks as old vinal records were refered to as discs therefore disc jocky
