As you all likely have worked out, there are so many different combinations of how to choose a username part of an e-mail domain

Lets say my name was George Black. I could have:
firstname.lastname = george.black@domain.com
first initital & Last Name = gblack@domain.com
first name & surname initial = georgeb@domain.com
firstname = george@domain.com
last name &first initial = blackg@domain.com
firstname & lastname = georgeblack@domain.com

This list is not exhaustive

So, my questions are:

How do you choose your username
What conventions do you prefer to see
What do you not like

In the interest of security, please do not divulge your real e-mail, but use an example to describe what you think is best

if your using that email addy for mainly business communication the most common protocol is first initial, last name..gblack@domain.com.. where the domain is usually your company name...if your just using this accound for more casual purposes, georgeb@domain, works great...just remember one thing, MAKE IT EASY TO TELL SOMEONE VERBALLY...some domain names you have to ask someone 13 times to finally understand what their email addy is if ur on the phone with them, know what i mean?~~~im not a believer that someone needs to get a kryptologist to decipher what your email address is...

I like last name & first initial. So if my name was joe smith it would be smithj@domain.com.

I like this because 15 years ago when the internet was in its infancy this is how my local ISP had us pick usernames. Just stuck with it I guess...

I DON'T like names separated by a period (.). There has to be an RFC about this somewhere... I need to check... It seems to confuse some people

Hello,

(ANS) OK!! lets get the obvious out of the way first of all, what you choose is going to be down to personal preference!!

**Personally I chose an email name & address that a) I liked b) was short enough so I could remember it myself c) short enough so others would remember it too without to much difficulty. d) creative & unusual enough to satify my artistic side.

**I seem to have a real knack at creating email address's & domain names for my friends. Everyone I've done that for has been very complimentary about my suggestions or results.

**I've got the same email address I've had for more than 6years and its stood the test of time, but it goes with my personal domain name to which I've also owned for a few years now too.

In mine I've used firstname underscore surname I have had it for years only sometimes I regret it as too many know who you are tried to change it only it was confusing for the people who have mailed me for years so I keep it.

I choose it by spelling my name backwards then putting my fav celeb's first name or initial after it.
eg. name: Nelly
fav celeb: kelly clarkson
yllenkc or yllenkelly
ha ha weird but hey.....
i don't really like to use my real name.
