You need to start by getting an undergraduate degree in psychology. That will probably take four years. It would be a good idea to try and get an honours degree, because the next step is getting into a graduate program in psychology and that is highly competitive. You should apply for a doctoral program, either a PhD or PsyD program. (In most states, you can't get licensed as a psychologist with just a Master's degree.) If you are accepted into such a program, expect 4-6 years of study and practical training. You will then need to complete a psychology internship. These, too, are quite competitive. They last a year and consist of intensive practical training. The next step is to become licensed as a psychologist. This involves a period (usually a year) of supervised practice and the passing of an exam (or exams). The requirements vary from state to state. After all of that, you can then call yourself a psychologist.

A psychologist is someone who's just interested in getting paid for being a legalized voyeur. We have real problems like AIDS and many other diseases to solve as well as various problems that can only be solved by technological innovations not psychobabel. I have no respect for Psych students or shrinks.Since, they are too lazy to take on the tough stuff and instead take the easy way out. The garbage man is much more important than some Freud or Dr.Phil impersonator.
Why don't you just get a 1 900 number and place an ad in the psychics and fortune tellers section. A Psychic-fortune teller is about the equivalent of a shrink. You can start making money sooner.

Psychologist: a posh word for someone who thinks they know you better than you know yourself. Basically a liar.
