It was at one time thought to have been Rameses II.However he lived and ruled Egypt for 67years, until his mid nineties.
Contemporary records show that the Israelites were still in Egypt when the city of Pi Rameses was completed and established.
The Israelites comprised the major part of the work force of builders as tradesmen and labourers who built the city so this theory is now outdated.
For Rameses II never lived to see its completion.
From more recent research and findings,it is now accepted that it was Pharaoh Merenptah,a son of Rameses11. Who was the Pharaoh of Moses and the Exodus.
Although Egyptian records have not yet yielded any details or mention of the Exodus. However, there was a person called Moses who appears to have been the main spokesperson for the Israelites just prior to their leaving Egypt.
But no records tell of them being chased out of Egypt by a Pharaoh .
Not all Israelites left at that time. For many had intermarried with the Egyptian population and had business and family ties they must have felt too strong to break.
Within a decade of their departure,a group of Israelites appeared at Pharaoh's court representing Moses. This was in request for the sale of grain. As their people were starving, due to a severe famine in the area to the north east of Egypt.Contemporary records recovered, show that the request was granted.
